JOAKIM'S LIFE STORY
Joakim grew up in the Netherlands, his parents met each other at a train station in Copenhagen while they were backpacking around Europe. A few weeks after their first encounter, his father received a sudden call from Norway announcing him that his mother was pregnant.
As soon as Joakim finished high school, he bought himself a backpack, grabbed his guitar, and got on a plane to the other side of the world. Joakim was a sensitive child, with a strong will of his own and an untamable thirst to travel the world. University wasn’t made for people like him; his mind was far too wild and curious to be fitted inside of a box, and his soul was thirsty to drink the secret elixirs that only Nomads get to taste and experience on the road. For many years that followed, he hitchhiked around the planet, singing and playing the guitar on the streets to make a living. At the age of 22, after a long journey in India, he suddenly received a call from New Zealand from his French ex-girlfriend announcing him that he was going to be a father soon. And so the family history repeated itself.
Soon, Joakim found himself living in the Basque Country in the south-west of France as a very young father. Not speaking the French language, he was unable to find himself a job, and spending a lot of his time in solitude, he was very directly confronted with himself. The freedom that he had found traveling around the world, he was now forced to find within himself. A long quest toward self-realization had just begun.
One day, as he was strolling the streets of Bayonne, he came across a poster saying “Yoga in English.” He wasn’t sure what yoga was, but having spent a lot of time in his own, he was eager to meet some English-speaking people. And so he gave it a go. That first yoga class was amazing. Joakim had been struggling with addictions for many years, but wanting to be a present father, he had just gave up a decade of smoking and drinking. Laying on his back for the first time in Shavasana he felt a deep sense of gratitude, for the first time in years he felt completely relaxed, without being off his face. This practice was amazing, and deep inside, he knew that he was going to be a Yoga teacher himself.
Joakim’s story is one of courageous adventures, but loss and sorrow have visited him too. His inward journey has taught him to embrace both high and low—both surfing waves at sunset and crying for lost ones at dawn.
His deep sensitivity is both his biggest challenge and greatest gift. Ever since Joakim was little, he has been able to see and communicate with spirits. As a small child, whenever he would meet a new person, he would often begin to receive all kinds of images of their lives. He always knew that these gifts were part of a deeper purpose, and that he would use them in the service of humanity one day.
Joakim mentors both Men and Women from all around the world, using his visions to help them heal old wounding and to reconnect with a deeper potential. Adventurer by nature Joakim has traveled the world since a young age. His journey has led him to root down in the the Southwest of France where he is living on the oceanside together with his two sons. Joakim is a born initiator and leader of ceremonies, inspiring many through his courage, humor and transparency. As a Shaman his mission is to bring healing and connection to his community. He shares his knowledge with an open heart.
And whenever the wind is blowing west, you can often find him paddling out on the local swell.

I hope to see you soon !
